James visits Southwood High School

James Burton stopped by Southwood high school to meet with the new class of guitar students. Burton was invited by Kathryne Rettelle- the Supervisor of Music for Caddo Parish Schools. Students took part in listening as Burton taught them a few chords and others even got the opportunity to play with the musical icon.

    Dear James
First of all, I would like to give you my condolences regarding Elvis, ” Cholly ” Hodge and John Wilkinson of the TCB Band, THEY WILL SURELY BE MISSED. James, bless you my friend for giving to other children the opportunity to learn music. I had spoken to a good friend of mine, Donna Ray, and she stated she knew you well so I decided to write you and say hello. Its hard for me to write to a famous Legend such as you but I final got the guts. Anyway, I performed at the Municiple Auditorium with Donna and after it was all over we all went out to eat in Boisser, My wife Mollie and I had a wonderful time. I wish they could bring back the ” Hayride “, there is so much new good talent that needs to be discovered. Anyway, Donna told me that your office is directly across the street from the auditorium, I would love to drop by sometime and visit but I have no idea when you will be there because of all your schedulings
James, I watch the Aloha concert almost every nite and I cry tears ’cause you all were so polished and humble and well dressed and I wish the heck I was there and play along with ya’ll but it was not meant to be. I was in High School and then I joined the Army in 75 and then tradegy struck in 77 while I was working on post, my Sgt told us that Elvis had passed on, SHOCKING! Every Friday I would go to the NCO Club and would hear Elvis’s ” Moody Blue” on the jukebox and in the other room would be his movies on the screen. Elvis will always be in my Heart James including the rest of the TCB Band. May God bless you and Louise and Family …… Bye for now
